About Gravelescape Sussex
Gravelescape Sussex is a non-competitive gravel cycling event exploring the trails, lanes and countryside of East Sussex and the South Downs.
Taking place on Saturday 12 June 2027, the event starts in Lewes and offers three distances: 100 km, 150 km and 200 km. Riders can expect a mixture of gravel paths, forest trails, disused railway routes, country lanes and sections of the South Downs Way.
Gravelescape is not a race. The emphasis is on endurance, exploration and completing a challenging gravel route, with organised feed stations and rider support along the way.
All three routes finish at Beak Brewery in Lewes, where riders can enjoy a post-ride meal and beer included in their entry.
Routes & Races
Gravel Escape 200
Gravel Escape 200 – 200 km
The longest route covers 200 km with 2,663 m of climbing.
This demanding loop explores the Sussex countryside, combining gravel paths, forest trails, disused railway trails, country lanes and road climbs.
The organiser specifies a 14-hour cut-off for the 200 km route, with three feed stations planned along the course.
Gravel Escape 150
Gravel Escape 150 – 150 km
The intermediate route covers 150 km with 1,799 m of climbing.
The course incorporates gravel paths, sections of the Cuckoo Trail and South Downs Way, quiet country lanes and off-road trails.
Three feed stations are planned to support riders throughout the route.
Gravel Escape 100
Gravel Escape 100 – 100 km
The shortest route covers 100 km with 1,032 m of climbing.
The route uses a mixture of gravel paths, quiet roads and trails, including sections associated with Underhill Lane, Downs Link and the South Downs Way.
Two feed stations are planned along the course.
Route Information
All three routes are non-competitive, with riders navigating using GPX files provided by the organiser.
The published route information remains subject to minor changes for 2027. Final GPX files are expected during the week of the event.
Age Groups & Eligibility
Gravelescape Sussex is open to riders aged 18 and over.
The event is non-competitive and does not operate as a traditional gravel race. No separate age-group competition categories have been verified for the 2027 edition.
