Southern Grit – Rider Services

Rider Support and Services

Southern Grit is a self-supported gravel sportive organised by Hidden Tracks Cycling.

The 2027 event includes individual GPS tracking, GPX navigation, a halfway feed station, refreshments and live finish results.

Riders remain responsible for their own navigation, pacing and mechanical preparation.

GPS Tracking

Every rider receives an individual GPS tracker for the duration of the event.

The tracking system allows friends, family and supporters to follow riders’ progress on a live online map.

Tracker Deposit: £20 refundable deposit

The organiser sends a payment link with the rider briefing shortly before the event. Deposits are refunded when trackers are returned.

Unreturned trackers incur a £150 replacement charge.

Navigation and Route Information

Both Southern Grit routes are navigated using GPX files.

Navigation: GPX required

Route Signposting: Routes are not signposted

Riders must use a suitable cycling computer or navigation device and be comfortable navigating independently.

The organiser provides GPX route files and pre-event rider information.

Feed Station

A stocked feed station is provided approximately halfway around the route.

The organiser identifies the feed station at approximately 54 km, before riders continue towards Earlswood Common, Reigate and Gatton Park.

Specific operating hours have not been published.

Pre-Ride Refreshments

Coffee and croissants are provided before the start at Herne Hill Velodrome.

These refreshments are included in the organiser’s published event arrangements.

Finish-Line Food and Drink

Pizza and beer are provided at Herne Hill Velodrome after riders complete their chosen route.

Timing and Results

Southern Grit provides live finish times and rider results.

Results appear as participants return to the velodrome, allowing riders and supporters to follow progress throughout the day.

Southern Grit remains a non-competitive sportive rather than a race.

Mechanical Support and Self-Sufficiency

The organiser describes Southern Grit as self-supported.

Riders should carry appropriate tools, spare parts, clothing and equipment to deal with mechanical problems and changing conditions.

The GPS tracking system provides location information but does not replace individual preparation or self-sufficiency.

No dedicated mechanical assistance service has been confirmed for 2027.

Rider Information

The organiser provides pre-event rider information and GPX files.

Riders should consult the final briefing for event instructions, GPS tracker arrangements and any updates to rider services.
